Originally from Cali, Colombia, South America, Dr. Tobon received his medical degree from one of the most renowned schools of Medicine in the country in 1985. After completing his internship providing services in an underserved area, he was hired as a General practitioner in the Academic Hospital University of Valley, where he took care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit and worked in the outpatient clinic.
Since his earlier years of training as a physician, he was greatly impressed and increasingly interested in the amazing relationship between mother and fetus, and the challenging aspects of women's health. Consequently, in 1991 he was accepted into an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program, offered by the same University where he got his medical degree from, and graduated in July 1994.
After getting his degree as Obstetrician and Gynecologist, he was invited to join the faculty program as an attending physician which involved duties as attendant in the hospital and teacher assistant for the academic program. Simultaneously, he opened his own private practice. He had a very successful career and was recognized by patients and colleagues because of his professionalism and kindness in patient treatment.
Unfortunately, in 2000 the political situation in his country and the lack of safety for him and his family, made him to decide to move to United States. His passion for his career allowed him to follow all the steps to get licensed and accredited to continue practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology in this country. In 2001 he was accepted by the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - Robert Wood Johnson, where he performed and outstanding work and was recognized for his high scores in the annual exams required by the program. He graduated in 2005 and was awarded because of his research paper on genetics. Dr. Tobon is well prepared and has the experience needed to provide women with high quality health care for normal and high risk pregnancies, as well as Gynecological care during the different stages of life.
He participates regularly in continual medical education activities, keeping his knowledge and skills current with the scientific advances in this field. He believes in using the latest technology to get moreprecise diagnosis and perform less invasive procedures. His participation in several educational trainings, in addition to his clinical experience, allowed Dr. Tobon to skillfully perform all levels of Gynecological and Obstetrical ultrasound, diagnosis and treatment of Urinary Stress Incontinence (USI), diagnostic and operative laparoscopic surgery, and Robotic Surgery. These procedures provide maximum benefits for the patient due to small incision, less analgesia, less risk of postoperative hernia, and a faster recovery time.
Since 2007, Dr. Tobon has been working in Orlando, Florida, area where he has become known not only for the efficiency of his treatments but also by his surgical abilities and bedside manners and as of 2009 he has been treating the Kissimmee community.
